Mercedes to introduce fully autonomous driving up to 95 km/h in 2025

Mercedes Benz is introducing a further development of its autonomous driving program DRIVE PILOT. This should make it possible to drive on motorways up to a speed of 95 km/h without driver intervention.

The dream of fully autonomous driving is getting closer again. Mercedes plans to update its DRIVE PILOT program in early 2025 to enable autonomous driving up to 95 km/h on German highways under certain conditions.

The latest development stage of the program is to be delivered to customers as an update at the beginning of 2025 and allows autonomous driving at up to 95 km/h under certain weather conditions as well as a driver in front who can be followed. On 17.12.2024, certification and approval by the German Federal Motor Transport Authority took place. Now nothing stands in the way of the market launch in time for spring 2025.

The surcharge for the autonomous driving program remains unchanged at 5,950 euros and existing DRIVE PILOT customers will receive the update free of charge on request. Depending on the model, the update will then take place over-the-air or through a workshop visit. The new functionality raises the Mercedes system to Level 3 of autonomous driving and underlines Mercedes' pioneering role in autonomous driving in production vehicles.

When DRIVE PILOT is activated, customers can then use the infotainment systems without restrictions while driving, for example by watching films or surfing the Internet. For the future, Mercedes holds out the prospect of enabling autonomous driving at up to 130 km/h by the end of the decade.
